NEWS OF THE STAR BULLETIN UNIT This is an effort to let you know what the Hawaii Newspaper Guild is doing now that the Star-Advertiser has started up.
On March 22, the Executive Committee voted unanimously to appoint Ernie Murphy as interim administrative officer of The Hawaii Newspaper Guild after Wayne Cahill retires June 10.
Guild members at both newspapers have asked many questions since David Black and Gannett announced Feb. 25th that Black would purchase the assets of the Advertiser. |

NEWS OF BLACK PRESS New Honolulu Star-Advertiser owner buys 11 B.C. papers, folds five David Black's Black Press has bought 11 British Columbia papers from Glacier Media and announced the closing of five of them, including the century-old Nelson Daily News and Prince Rupert Daily News.

Gannett selling Honolulu Advertiser to rival Star-Bulletin The parent company of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin on Thursday announced it was purchasing longtime rival The Honolulu Advertiser, the largest newspaper in Hawaii. Oahu Publications Inc. said it will acquire the Advertiser, its Web site, non-daily publications and an interest in Hawaii.com from Gannett Co. The Advertiser, one of Gannett's larger newspapers with a daily circulation of 130,000, was founded in 1856 and purchased by Gannett in 1993. |
